As you know, I am hoping to run in the Bay State Marathon on Sunday, October 19th. I chose this race because I read that 33% of the people who run in this marathon qualify for the Boston Marathon. If I can qualify for Boston, the timing will be perfect in preparing for Ironman Lake Placid.
The course is flat, which may actually hurt me. The last time I ran over a mile on flat ground was when I did a track workout back in early Spring. Every way I turn, there are hills. I can't seem to get away from them. My wife keeps telling me to embrace the hills. I wonder if this is why she drives her vehicle to the bottom of the hill and begins her runs from there.
Anyway, to qualify, I have to finish the Bay State Marathon in 3:15:00. This breaks down to 7:30 per mile. To me, that seems a bit fast, but I guess I don't have a choice.
Back to the training:
- Week of August 25th: 37 Miles (12.5 mile long weekend run)
- Week of September 1st: 35 Miles (14.1 mile long weekend run)
As you can see, with about 4 full weeks of training left, I have a lot of work to do.
Here's to staying healthy!
